"Sailing: Singapore wins first-ever world sailing title in 420 class - Channel NewsAsia 31 July 2010
SINGAPORE : Singapore has won its first-ever world sailing title in the 420 class.
On Saturday, national sailors Justin Liu and Sherman Cheng took the men's 420 crown at the International 420 World Sailing Championship in Haifa, Israel."
Congratulation to the sailors. This is the 17th world championship won by Sailing Singapore though it is the 1st one in the 420 Class.
Lessons for me are:
1. pick your sports and you can be world beaters!;
2. apparently the organization and quality of the people running Sailing Singapore are pretty high standard. From the administrators to the supporting staffs to the sailors themselves. So, if you have good people running an organization that is balanced, focused, humbled, and determined to succeed. It is possible, in fact, already a reality, to be world beaters!;
3. it is not a mass sporting event as not many people can afford it. So, maybe, just maybe, concentration of resources on a smaller group of sports people who can really afford the sports can produce world champions?
I hope it will encourage more people to take up sailing and that Sailing Singapore will be able to continue to produce world champion sailors when the net is cast bigger to take it the disadvantaged who have a passion for sailing. Yes?
