Daily Lessons from Life 21 June 2010 - Senior education official helped son cheat in exams

"Mon, Jun 21, 2010 AsiaOne -Senior education official helped son cheat in exams

A senior official in China helped his son to cheat in China's national college entrance examinations in June this year, and invigilators turned a blind eye.

Shin Min Daily reported that the head of the education department in Jiangyong province within Hunan, Mao Hua Dong, walked into the examination hall a few times to pass his son cheat sheets. He was suspended from duties thereafter!!"

A sad story to say the least. Senior Educational Official. He should had known better. Yet he did it. It showed desparation or love?

Lessons for me are:

1. pressure to make it to the university in some countries are simple unimaginable and unbearable for the parents and the students. Yet, in China, many university graduates could not find decent jobs in recent years. So, is it still so lucrative or just a sense of honour for the family or something esle? It is a mystery;

2. while it is understandable why someone may caved in or succumbed to the pressure of 'cheating', it does not excuse the perpetrators - especially so when he is in the Education Ministry! The one who knows the laws must not break the laws;

3. I wonder how the kid is feeling now? It must be a terrible experience for the kid knowing that the father got into fairly deep trouble due to this attempt to cheat. It is a consequence that most who tried their luck do not really want to think about as they tried to console themselves that it would not happened to them! Well, histories had simply too many such stories. People who were found out eventually or unfortunately!

A sad story.
