Daily Lesson from Life 15 September 2008

A long jog/run/walk from Zhong Shan MRT Station to the Bund and then North Bund tonight

I took a long job/run/walk today starting at 7pm and finishing at 9.30pm! Jogged for 1hr 20mins and did that 'jog on the Bund' ambition finally!! Then walked to North Bund, unintentionally, and back! It was good as the cold or flu did not played up!!

Yip Pin Xiu has won Singapore's first gold medal of the Paralympic games.

She finished seven seconds ahead of Fran Williamson of Great Britian in the women's 50m backstroke (S3) in a time of 58.75 seconds. Xia Jiangbo of China took the bronze in one minute 7.97 seconds.

She had earlier set a new world record of 57.92 seconds during the heats.

The swimmer already has a silver medal and the world record from the 50m freestyle (S3) on Saturday.

Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when she was a child, Yip's parents took her to swimming lessons to strengthen her muscles. She started training competitively two years ago."

I like to salute the winner of the 1st Paralympic Game Gold Medal and holder of the world record. She is a pure Singaporean. A true champion. Someone we can learn from.

There another news report that Singaporean youth are no longer able to take hardship and pains. They have lost the resilience! Well, maybe Ms Yip should be made the Angel of Resilience and let her help to spread the message that if one put his or her mind to overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds, nothing is impossible. After all, impossible is spelt, really, 'I M Possible!'.

Be inspired young Singaporeans. There is a Paralympic Gold Medalist and a World Record Holder in tiny Singapore. You can try to get close to that achievement in your own field no matter what it maybe!
