Daily Lesson from Life 25 July 2008

"Singapore planning fourth airport terminal: PM PM believes forward planning key to ensuring passengers continue to enjoy high quality and excellent service, and keeping Changi its leadership position far into the future. -Fri, Jul 25, 2008 AFP

Singapore has started planning for a fourth terminal at Changi Airport, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Friday at the official opening of the airport's third terminal.

The civil aviation authority 'is already starting on master-planning for Terminal 4,' Mr Lee said.

'It will not be needed for many more years. But forward planning will ensure that passengers can continue to enjoy high quality and excellent service, and Changi can keep its leadership position far into the future,' he said.

He was speaking at the official opening of Changi's Terminal 3, the airport's largest terminal, which has been operating since January. Built at a cost of S$1.75 billion, Terminal 3 provides 380,000 square metres of space in a seven-storey building with an attached hotel."

Yes. If you do not plan, you plan to fail. At the same time, if you do plan, you are not guarantee success but at least you know why you failed!

Planning can be of a short, middle or long term nature. The definition of short, middle or long term depends on the type of decision, nature of the organization making those decisions, etc. But all point to one common truth: If you don't plan you to fail!

Lessons for me:

1. there is a need for planning. The most important one is about yourself. For me, my life goal is: to be a good person, good father, good husband, and good son in private and be a professional in my career. What is GOOD becomes important. Good can means: honesty, sincerity, giving, understanding, etc...;

2. there is a need to remind oneself to continuously strive to achieving, maintaining and exceeding the goals set. There will be lots of ups and downs. We must be steadfast in our resolve to succeed!;

3. Changi Airport is NOT NO. 1 Airport in the world by some measurement. We MUST remind ourselves that we are NOT the best. Even if we are, the goal should be: there is no BEST but there are always BETTER!

I hope when T4 is ready, it will be a better facility than T3, which in my opinion, is not as good as T2 or even T1!!
