BANGKOK: A Thai soldier who killed at least 29 people before being shot dead in a mall by commandos went on the rampage because of a debt dispute, the kingdom's prime minister said on Sunday (Feb 9), offering the first official motive for the "unprecedented" shooting spree.
Sharp-shooters brought an end to a 17-hour-ordeal when they killed the gunman on Sunday morning after a night which seesawed between heavy exchanges of gunfire and terrifying dashes for mall exits by shoppers trapped in the Terminal 21 mall in Nakhon Ratchasima, also known as Korat.
Throughout the day he posted images of himself and wrote several posts on his Facebook page.
In one Facebook video - since deleted - the assailant, wearing an army helmet, filmed from an open-top jeep, saying, "I'm tired ... I can't pull my finger anymore" as he made a trigger symbol with his hand."
This is a terrible terrible crime! A totally mindlesa killing of civilians by a trained rogue soldier!
Whatever the trigger for this rampant killing is, the killer has paid 4 it with his life. Did he even think abt the pains n miseries he had caused by taking away innocent lives just like that?
RIP to the dead n condolences to surviving families n friends!

2. "DORSCON switched to Code Orange as cases diagnosed rose to 33 with 6 discharged n 6 in critical conditions!"
DORSCON was raised to Orange. It happened a few years back, supposedly, during the H1N1 flu epidemic, which i hv no recollection actially! It probably meant Sgp residents then were calm n collected n didn't engage in hoarding ofsurgical masks n daily essentials! Unlike the last 3 days where many supermarkets were emptied of such items n the gov has to announce n reassured the people there is totally unnecessary to hoard such stuffs! The biggest retail chain, NTUC Fairprice n other supermarkets hv to stipulate "limit on purchase of some essentials like masks/paper issues/toilet papers/etc.!!
Some attributed the panic buying to:
1. speed of social media n internet massaging apps stirring up anxiety n bad news!; and
2. mix of residents with more foreigners that had not gone through SARS n H1N1 crises in Sgp.
Item 1 is understandable n need to b guarded against always. How well trained n educated the populace to double check all information they received make senses or not b4 sharing is critical. How reliable n fast official gov communication to rebut n clarify unfounded, n sometimes malicious falsehoods r critical. And how much TRUST the people placed on gov's information also weighed heavily.
On all counts, i think Sgp did aOK! There is NO NEED to amplify the SMALL group of not so wise nor steady internet users n the small group of panicked buyers/hoarders of daily essentials given the "purchase limit has been set"!
As 4 the concerns abt how other countries will look at these panicky n hoarding behaviours, i WON'T give too much attenrion to them as they r just a small minority n we hv ways to manage the resources.
Any talk abt others won't want to do biz with Sgp becoz of this behaviours has definitely exaggerated the issue!
Peace n calm upon Sgp. We will beat this crisis!
