"Singapore must act decisively against nativist tendencies: Heng Swee Keat
SINGAPORE: Some of the public discourse around foreigners show that Singapore is not immune to the same divisive forces that have swept across the world, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said on Monday (Jan 20).
Such "nativistic tendencies" must be acted on decisively, he said."
At one time the gov labelled those who questioned abt why there r so many foreigners, especially foreign talents (FTs), taking over the local talents (LTs) jobs, as xenophobic.
Now it no longer used that term. It is now called: being a nativist?
As far back as 4-5 yrs ago, i already advocated the need to describe Foreigners as:
1. Foreign Workers (FWs) that take up jobs a 1st world citizens no longer want to do like construction, horticultural workers, etc. These FWs r welcome on project by project n returns to their Home Countries when projects r completed!;
2. FTs whose skills n expertise r not found in the LTs that supposedly were trained in a world best educational system n many world topping universities. In this case, such FTs must b welcome n tasked to develop suitably qualified FTs to takeover in 5yrs time when feasible.
At the same time, we can hire LTs for FTs that r not that different in terms of skills m expertise ya? These jobs tend to b much higher pay too!
So, while it is great to talk abt 1 Sgp team with foreigners, it is critical that we recognize a Sgp team with the core LTs n the right LTs instead just loosely called the LTs n FTs a Sgp team!!
