Daily Lessons from Life 24 November 2016 - PSLE n Lifelong Learning

By the way, Joseph Schooling is back in Sgp to collect his S$1m award for his Olympic Gold medal performance. I like the young man for his continued groundedness. May he be the greatest n smartest ever swimmer n gentleman.

1. PSLE Results today

My niece just got her results today. All I asked her was: r u happy with your results. She said yes while her dad said it was better than expected. For me, it is all abt: is she happy with it! Only when she is not then I will try to understand n help her to realise that what's done cannot be undone n all she needs to do is keep moving forward. Easier said than done. Yet it has to be as a young life cannot be determined by one exam. With all three emphasis on Lifelong learning for working young n old adults been the rage, we must emphasise the joy 9f learning. Hence , if the learner is happy, the motivation to learn will be ever present.

2. Lifelong learning for continuous employment

DPM Tharman talked abt the need to continuously learn knowledge n skills that r relevant to one's employment if one needs the income to live or support the family or just indulge in oneself! All these r fir practical reasons. If u r a business owner or creator, u will probably be aware of potential new trends than need new products or services or solutions for existing n new customers/consumers. That will go beyond technical knowledge n skills. That will require a thinking mindset that can see how technologies can create new demands that ever the current customers n consumers r not aware they need n desired them!!

So, keep learning to stay in employment. But developing business owners who will create employment opportunities r even more important. That means risks taking, resilience to accept failures n rejections n scoffs, understanding it is not just abt making billions but creating employment that produce consumers who will consume responsibly. An utopia? Maybe. Yet it will be a crime not to try!!
