The country best known for the Hollywood movie: "The Killing Field" is still exercising it's demon after all these years!!
Interesting I was just given a book review by a friend where it discuss abt why the many butchers at the infamous Nazi concentration death camp: Auschwitz r professional trained medical doctors!!
How could a fellow human being brings himself to treat another fellow human being like some lower class animal fit for ill treatment, humiliation of the extreme and live sample for unusual n dangerous experiment? Some even described these prisoners as cheaper but better than rats as live samples for medical experiment.
The 2 accused r in their 80-90 now. Obviously they were part of the leadership team that executed the insane n inhumane massive killing of its own people. A genocide to rid Cambodia of the "bad" half of the population. The atrocities committed r not less than those committed in Auschwitz.
Why did the do what they had done?
1. born with a psychologically "sick" mind; or
2. survival instinct to be on the "right" side of those who ordered such atrocities; or
3. after acting out behaviours in reason no. 2 above, the sense of absolute power over the prisoners grew on them n they begin to like it n magnified the worst!!
Whatever the reason, as long as one acted against the generally accepted behaviours towards prisoners n medical experiment "volunteers", one must, n will, pay for it!!
No amount of rationalisation will prevent u from being held responsible for your behaviours.
In the cases of these 2 elderly x-Khmer Rouge leaders, they just hv to accept that they DID DO MANY EXTREMELY TERRIBLE N INHUMANE treatments to the innocent fellow Cambodians that they hv to pay the prize of life sentence if not death sentence!!
If u must, leave n live a life as u know is decent.
