Interesting to read abt 3 protests in 3 of the Asean countries - Malaysia, the Philippines n Indonesia
Msia Bersih 5 is a continuation from last year Bersih 4 after the PM was seemingly implicated in the 1MDB scandal.
Nothing much happened despite 200k in 2015 n today's 15k protesters. For most, the important thing is that it completed without any major violence as the PRO-AM supporters threatened violence against the Bersih supporters.
No Abrab Spring for sure. The struggle continue as the Msians find answers to this 1MDB scandal n a just democratically elected government.
The Philippines also has protest against the speedy Hero burial to x-dictator Marco, after his death of almost 30 years. This case clearly demonstrated that if your loved ones were not the victims of the dead, it is easier to forgive n move on. For many who protested, it was difficult if not impossible. President Duterte kept his promise n had done it. Albeit a hasty n quick "catch the opposition" by surprise tactic.
If u measured Marco's reign by economics achievement n its political influence, his administration did not do too badly. If u measured it by human rights violation, especially those against him, it was a terrible period.
What next? To leave it as it I'd now done. Or to dig him out n buried somewhere else. It is hard for a dead person who still can't be buried in peace. A fate never contemplated by Mr Marcos for sure.
Finally Indonesia protest of racial n religious intolerance by more than 10k people. This is positive given the violent end to the 100k religious protesters against the incumbent Jakarta governor n some attack against Christian churches.
Race n religion must be left outside politics. Both subjects r very emotive matters. When emotions r aroused n inflamed, no rationality can match it.
Beware of the extreme dangers people n beware of some "leaders" who will sacrifice that to achieve their desire for power. People with power n do evils can cause much damages. Beware.
