Daily Lessons from Life 18 November 2016 - Sextortion Suicide n Spousal Abuses

1. watched CNA "Undercover Asia - Sextortion Suicide" n comes away with the following numbing thots:

a. it gained world's, at least more than one country's, attention when the 17-yr old Scottish boy committed suicide after being sextorted!

Interpol was involved n they traced the fraudsters to some areas around Manila, the Philippines! Half a world away!;

b. 2 women who r in this "trade" said they do it for the money. They can make usd400/victim!! Some days they managed 6 victims!! No longer feels guilty nor pity for the victims!! Scary how poverty can be a valid excuse to engage in frauds. Harmless until one of them went too far as to "urge" the Scottish boy to commit suicide @@;

c. official sextortion cases reported in Sgp, Hkg n UK numbered in the 100 to 200+. But if the lady in the program is truthful, 6 victims on a good day translate into more than 90 (6×15days/mth) each mth by 1 operator. And we r talking abt a call center like operation in the raids documented in the program!! Just the tip of an iceberg!

Remedy? Education of users n eradication of poverty at source. Immediately one is staring at an incredibly difficult task.

Whoever want it will do it whatever the challenges.  Good luck.

2. watched CNA On the Red Dot - Married into Violence

Another numbing show. This one is much closer to home. Both victims r in Sgp!! Both r wives! One local n one a Vietnamese.

I read abt this a few years ago. There was a Get Real! program on it too if my memory didn't fail me.

Who is to judge why both women suffered the violent physical mental n physical abuses for 5 yrs n 8 yrs before getting help.

The usual suspects like: too afraid to talk, too shameful, still hopeful, simply doesn't know who or how to get help, etc.

Whatever the reasons, once help is rendered, most feel liberated while many still need time to heal the mental besides the physical wounds.

For those with children who witnessed such acts, the kids definitely need psychological therapy as they would hv a very twisted view of how issues can be resolved through violence.

A very sad situation. Hopefully more victims will hv seen this program n know that they need help - to help themselves 1st n if possible, help the abusers who may be psychological sick too.

1st priority: save yourself 1st in such a tragic relationship.

Enough ills to ponder over how to resolve them over the weekend!
