1. EP finally get into the Parliament for the MPs to debate on the pros and cons and if it will pass, which it will given that PAP is the majority political party in the parliament, into laws.
Current EP Tony Tan said: 'the EP cannot be a 2nd centre of power'. It should not be indeed. The office holder is just to be the approver of the government to use the national reserve for serious rainy days, or not! Whatever the EP can do are stated in his/her roles and responsibilities and authorities. In any case, the cabinet can 'overrule' an EP's decision if something is not right. Yes?
Again, the debates talked about how it will be good for the future. The next 50 years. Personally if we still cannot elect an EP based on merit, we have an issue. All races of Singapore must have enough talents to qualify to be a candidate for EP election in 50 years. If not, the nation has failed. No?
Anyway, it will be passed into law. The question remains: do the voters care? if not, has the EP debate really meant its purpose or just the purpose of the originators?
2. Hkg government moved to bar the 'elected' 'disloyal' Lego members
Well, this outcome is hardly surprising given that the 'disloyal' Legco members, elected they may be, cannot possibly say they are loyal to their country, PRC, which Hkg SAR is part of. Hkg has NEVER been an independent country. It was 'leased' or 'rented out' to the British and never an independent country. So, how on earth can the now-barred newly elected Legco members said that: Hkg is an independent country and NOT part of PRC?
Some critics and commentators said that this intervention by PRC means that the international communities will have doubts on Hkg laws and credibility and may affect commercial activities. Well, honestly speaking, given that Hkg SAR IS part of PRC, and the '1 country 2 systems' will run for 50 years after 1997 is now threatened by this open challenge by 'disloyal' elected Legco Members, anyone who deal with Hkg SAR will have to keep in mind what PRC government can do!
Will PRC government ignore international trade and commercial laws if Shanghai and Beijing would not? So the answer is clear. PRC still wants to be part of the international trading community. It JUST cannot tolerate '2 countries 2 systems' that the 'disloyal' elected Legco Members' demand.
Case closed. Non-negotiable really.
Will those who support an independent Hkg elect another pro-Hkg Independent candidate in the supposedly forced 'by-election'? Unlikely. Actually the most workable solution for the pro-independent folks are just to uproot and move to another country. Maybe the USA can take in another 1 or 2 millions Hkg folks who are pro-independent?
