Daily Lessons from Life 31 July - New MOM department to probe discrimination complaints

MH17 Updates - Blasts are still heard near the crash site where the international investigators/experts finally arrived to do their work. It is getting silly with the 'fighting'. Hope the team finds some evidence quickly and get out of harms way. Some of these trigger-happy 'warring factions' may not know where and who they will be shooting next!

Whao! The last day of July 2014 is here and will be gone soon! How time flies! A big happy birthday to a good friend with a heart of gold who raised more than S$100k for her 3 favourite charities she supports on her 50th birthday!

"New MOM department to probe discrimination complaints - The Straits Times Jul 31, 2014

The Fair Consideration Department, headed by a director-level senior official, will also "engage firms across different industry sectors to better understand their human resource practices and efforts to develop Singaporeans professionals, executives and managers (PMEs)", the ministry said in a blog post on Thursday."

Well, to many of the older Singaporean ex-PMEs who were struggling to get jobs that commensurate with their experiences and compensation but could not due to 'discrimination' by the potential employers, this is a big August Gift!

Lessons for me are:

1. it has been a moot point when the Singaporean ex-PMEs provided feedback that they were discriminated against when trying to seek jobs that they are well qualified from the potential employers vis a vis competition against the younger male, and female, 'foreign talent', as many feel that the Singaporeans ex-PMEs were too choosy and demanding too much. Maybe the MOM saw enough cases to realise that their plights were real?;

2. now that this special department has been set up in the MOM, let it starts the work it was created to perform asap. Along the way, it will, hopefully collect concrete empirical evidence to show if the Singaporean ex-PMEs have a case or not!;

3. it is critical that all Singaporean ex-PMEs maximise or optimise this new Department and show that you folks are truly able and willing to take up jobs even with a slightly lower compensation package. That you are great Local Talent that Singapore can still depend on. That the past 2-3 decades of training, learning and development by some of the world's top global companies have done their jobs of making you a great asset of Singapore. A great local talent pool is here for all to tap!

I am hopeful this is a positive development for the older Singaporean ex-PMEs to find jobs that commensurate with their experiences and expertise!
