Daily Lessons from Life 03 March 2014 - Oscars and 'A' Level Results

A quick one.

1. Oscars night in Hollywood

The slavery materials get the nod. Guessed it is one way for the Americans to remember the progression from slavery and to honor those that had come through!

It is amazing that President Obama is a President in the light of this historical 'inconvenience'!

2. 'A' Level Results

Another day of happiness for some and sadness for some others and numbness for, hopefully, only the very few.

Will this determine the future of these young kids? Definitely NOT though it is not apparent for those who did not achieve the results they wanted. Afterall, in Singapore, and elsewhere in Asia, education is one of the surest way to get out of poverty and is one of the greatest leveller.

Having said that being successful in life and at work is more than just getting a certificate that said you have attained this or that level of education. The school of life teaches even more important and practical lessons that will benefit anyone who care to learn. Some learned by being tough and persist. Some could not as they crumpled under the pressure of life's hard lessons!

So, for those who got what they had worked for, congratulation. For those who did not get what they had worked hard for, heads up and look forward as looking back will not be helpful except to note the lessons learned. There are more to life than just a certificate of education!
