Daily Lessons from Life 21 March 2013 - Singapore Red Cross warns public against fundraising scam

Strange that I blew my top at the shopping center while assisting a friend to buy stuffs! I lost it and it was regretful. Got to do better Mr Lu!! More practices and more MINDFULNESS!

"Singapore Red Cross warns public against fundraising scam - CNA 22 March 2013 1036 hrs Singapore Time

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has advised the public not to fall prey to cheats who use its name to raise funds.

It said on Friday that it has been informed of several cases of individuals claiming to be volunteers and soliciting donations on its behalf.

They carry fake documents and collaterals that bear the SRC logo and fake fundraising licenses.

Currently, SRC does not have any public appeal or fundraising activities that are conducted door-to-door.

Anyone who comes across any door-to-door or street solicitations using the Red Cross name should report it to the Police or call SRC at 6664 0500.

SRC has made a police report.

It said the authorities are investigating the matter."

Strange that I was discussing with some PRC folks that their Red Cross Organization were exposed as spending extravagantly on themselves!

Lessons for me are:

1. some people will always exploit other do-gooders with charitable donations. Some of these people think that they are very smart. And some of them probably are. The question is: are they really smart?;

2. those people who donate happily and unquestioningly. Are they smart? Probably not if they don't bother with to whom do the money go to! Still, it may not be a natural thing for these do-gooders to be suspicious of other people's motives when they come knocking and asking them to donate for a GOOD cause! A balance needs to be struck somehow. Hopefully the do-gooders can complement their good hearts with solid heads too!;

3. in any case, those who exploited the do-gooders' kindness and generosity, whether gullible or not, MUST be punished severely. It is an unforgivable crime as it negatively affect do-gooders' resolve to continue to do good. This price is simply too great to pay for a functioning healthy society.

Shame on you for cheating on charitable donations.
