"100 youth leaders engage in national conversation dialogue - CNA 12 January 2013

SINGAPORE: Some 100 youth leaders and members from nine youth uniformed organisations engaged in an Our Singapore Conversation dialogue on Saturday morning.

The event is part of the Inaugural Young Leaders' Forum organised by the Singapore Scout Association.

Education Minister Heng Swee Keat was also present to listen in and have an open dialogue with the participants.

Some of the topics discussed include what values and ideals Singaporeans should have in 2030, and what attributes Singaporeans need in order to succeed.

Organisers hope the forum will help develop young leaders and also contribute to the development of Singapore."

It is good to get the youth of today involved with this National Conversation as they will be the leaders of tomorrow regardless.

Lessons for me are:

1. hopefully they will be talking about their future aspiration for Singapore and themselves;

2. hopefully these will be VERY DIFFERENT from the many still 'bread and butter issues' of the grown up and the spiralling property prices and how they will NOT be able to afford to buy a public housing unless the government can create million dollar jobs for all of them in the future!!;

3. hopefully they will TOUCH on the very fundamental principles of HOW Singapore will treat its citizens, how it will MEASURE the success of its people?, how they want to be involved with politics and take up public office to improve the lots of the people and NOT because of big fat pay package!, etc.

I look forward to reading the SUMMARY of their ideas. Hopefully it will uplift me!

May Singapore never be like that!! May Singapore have next generation geniuses after LKY.
