"Suspects in gang-rape case to face murder charges: Police - The Straits Times and AFP 29 Dec 2012
The Indian news channel NDTV greeted news of her death in the early hours of
Saturday in a Singapore hospital with the banner headline “RIP: India’s
Daughter", in a reflection of how her plight had moved the nation.
Ever since she was attacked on the night of December 16, the country’s
leaders have lined up to offer their prayers and condemn the attack as well as
paying for her treatment in Singapore.
Of the 6 rapists, one is a school bus driver, called "Mental" by friends because of his
volatile temper. Another is a bus conductor. Others in the group include a
vegetable vendor, a gym instructor and a 17-year old who worked as a helper on
long distance buses."
A sad ending. Rest in peace indeed not matter what.
Lessons for me are:
1. that her death MUST NOT be in vain. That it will save a generation of Indian females from such criminals;
2. that the mindset against this crime called: 'rape' be forever be changed in India so that ANY future offenders will know that they will be DEALT with severely and quickly instead of the 'traditional' indifference and long delay to get to trial as well as the harassing of the victims to settle out-of-court or even the ridiculous suggestion of marrying to the RAPIST!!;
3. that IGNORANT males will forever think twice of committing such crime as THESE bloody murderers are really ordinary people emboldened by the society lack of care about 'rape' cases!!;
4. that any right minded India males will take the females seriously or more seriously so as to deter any potential sexual harassers from going one step further. The son of the Indian President who dismissed the women who joined in the nation wide protests should NEVER be allowed to voice such dismissive comments and just APOLOGISED. He and those in position of power and responsibility MUST be the leading light to condemn and confront this issue with INTEGRITY. Else, they may as well get themselves KILLED!! Yes. Strong language but such civil thoughts MUST NOT be allowed to have a chance to take root!!
Rest in peace the Daughter of India. Rest in peace.
