Daily Lessons from Life 28 December 2012 - Youth attacked outside Orchard Cineleisure in intensive care

Met up with 3 long time friends and their wive with my wife for dinner together. We have known each others since 1982 or earlier! Our kids are all growing up fast and one of the kids is getting married in July 2013!! How we treasure the long friendship and looking forward to MORE good years to share!!

"Youth attacked outside Orchard Cineleisure in intensive care - STOMP 28 December 2012

SINGAPORE - A report on citizen journalism site Stomp said that a man in his 20s was attacked near Orchard Cineleisure's main entrance on Thursday night.

Police received a call on Dec 27 at 10pm asking for assistance at Grange Road.

The man was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital where he is in the intensive care unit. The Straits Times understands that he has head injuries.

A netizen, Yu, wrote in to Stomp and said that the man was attacked by four "well built and heavily tattooed" youths, one of whom was armed with a knife.

Yu added that the man in his 20s was badly hurt.

Police are still investigating the case."

Another violent attack involving youths in Singapore.

Lessons for me are:

1. life is fickle, life is cheap. One can be enjoying the fun and laughter one moment, and set upon and knifed the next!;

2. knife is the key word here in light of the atrocious killing at Sandy Hook elementary school in the USA recently where the attacker used assault weapons that have NO PLACE in a civilized society. Would the attackers use fire arms IF the penalty for possession of any illegal fire arms is DEATH even if you did not fire any shot at the scene? Just carrying it will get you hang or death-by-lethal-injection!!;

3. if this is just another gang fight, then perhaps our laws enforcement agencies need to be extra vigilant and nit the bud before it has any chance to 'grow'!! Expediency, just and merciless enforcement is the way to go with such violent crimes. No potential criminals should be left the impression that: maybe I will get a light sentence!! Cruel. Backward. Yes. So what? Just need to be just, fair and transparent in the trial...

May the youth survived to help the investigation and bring the attackers to justice. Even if the victim may be another gang member. The laws will deal with him too if it is the case!
