Daily Lessons from Life 21 February 2019 - Comments on the Budget thus far...

So many experts n analysts had expressed their opinions abt the Budget.

Live TV screening of the Finance Minister answering Qs fr an audience that comes from a wide spectrum of the population that will b affected was done too a day after the Budget.

An unfortunate coincidence of Minister Chan Chun Seng at 1 past GE Rally saying that Sgp voters will not b bribed by S$300 n this no. is the same as Minister Heng's special Bicentennial Bonus for the lower income!!

Anyway, my takes:

1. 30% went to defence as the belief is: without security, Sgp will not be safe n stable n there won't b chance to build prosperity!

Minister Ng in Germany to launch 1 of 3 new "customised to Sgp requirements" submarines underscored the $$ invested in this area!

Q. can it be lower just a bit? Debatable?

2. Service sector still not getting the need to raise productivity through automation, digitisation n etc. seriously as grumbling was heard abt how reduction of Dependency Ratio will -vely impact their biz!!

Note: for this one, we really need the biz people to step up!!

3. The 3-yr extension of similar innovation, deep capacities building n internationalisation grants

Q. does it mean, again, the biz people r resisting n instead of thinking how to make it work for them, they focused on how difficult or troublesome it is to apply for these grants? The mindset need to change?

4. Is the Bicentennial Bonus just an excuse to give money to all voters, including the Merdeka Generation Package (MGP) instead of more targeted giving of aids?

Is it true that the unit healthcare cost can only go up no matter what we try?

5. some folks feedback that while these top up n handouts r welcomed, it would had been better if they get them in cash instead of into their CPF since they need to meet current immediate needs than retirement needs NOW!!

i.e. for those whose income is really insufficient to make responsible ends meet.

Q. do we know how many of these folks? Is it possible to help them to help themselves i.e. teach them to fish instead of giving the fishes!!

6. higher n higher cost of living

Q. is it possible to defray these increasing cost just through the GST Vouchers?

While NTUC Fairprice is supposed to help moderate prices of daily essential with bulk purchase power, how much profit is made n how much the mgt r paid for hitting their KPIs? n what r their KPIs? Truly Social Enterprise or for big profit?

Enough for now??
