Daily Lessons from Life 04 January 2019 - Local pioneers besides Stamford Raffles

"Sang Nila Utama, pioneers join Stamford Raffles along Singapore River

SINGAPORE: Four new sculptures have joined the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles along the Singapore River for the Singapore Bicentennial.

The statues of Sang Nila Utama, Tan Tock Seng, Munshi Abdullah and Naraina Pillai were unveiled on Friday (Jan 4) in recognition of the diverse communities and people who have shaped Singapore over the years, said the Singapore Bicentennial Office (SBO)."

Absolutely cool to hv the 3 local pioneers that were around in former Sgp  during Stamford Raffles's time.

There is no doubts in any rational minds that the colonizer could not hv achieved what he had done without the locals helping him while also helped themselves.

Pillai is a interpreter for Raffles.
Tan a self made man.
San Nila a prince who named Sgp as Temasek.

Of course these r the more prominent among the many l9cals who did their bid too to make eacj period in the history of today's Sgp from 200 yrs ago.

These prominent people r called heroes as it gives them a bit more attraction n selling power.

Having their statues erected besides the coloniser, Raffles, will mean more photo ops spots n pieces. This can only b good for our tourism.

I think that is 1 of the objectives of holding the bicentennial commemoration besides instilling a sense of belonging n pride abt how modern Sgp had "arrived" from a very difficult n chequered past.

Blessed these local prominent people or heroes.
