"Police clarify claims by victim in Tampines toilet video recording case
SINGAPORE: The police on Sunday (Dec 30) clarified two points raised by the woman who had alleged that a man had filmed her while she was in the cubicle of a female washroom in Tampines.
The man, 30, was arrested on Wednesday.
In a Facebook post on Sunday (Dec 30), the Singapore Police Force noted that the woman, Ms Emilia Chong, has claimed that police officers who attended to her case did not arrest the man immediately but viewed CCTV footage first.
They also noted that Ms Chong had claimed that she was told the man could be let off with a warning.
"In fact, the police officers had detained the man (so that he could not run away) before proceeding to conduct preliminary investigations, which included viewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses, to establish if there was prima facie evidence of the alleged offences," SPF said in a Facebook post.
"There being so, the police then proceeded to effect the arrest. These established procedures are to ensure fairness and impartiality towards all parties involved, including the alleged offender," they added."
Good that the SPF takes the troubles to EXPLAIN n CLARIFY the 2 inaccurate or misunderstood points raised by the victim quickly. The SPF could hv warned the "victim" to avoid spreading inaccurate or one-sided information to show that the police officers on the grounds were unprofessional or insensitive or even rude n unsympathetic!!
This is what PM Lee n his legal team could hv done abt those inaccurate information that triggered him to sue The States Times Review n now the individual Mr Leong for reposting that offensive article.
Anyway, with social media, more communication work r required to help people get ACCURATE information n also educate the readers on what r the actual proper procedures or processes or actions they questioned.
There need to b some give-n-take n the authority or power-that-be can work a bit harder to explain, clarify n educate b4 reaching the big stick of suing someone.
As legal cost is high, if people with the resources use legal law suits to quiet those who were wronged but without resources, it will b very sad. Of course, there is that legal rep by the state or pro bono legal aid. It is different fr hiring expensive n established lawyers.
May the culprit in this case face the consequence of his transgression n the victim's right fully protected fr such pervert!!
