Daily Lessons from Life 28 December 2018 - ICA Working very hard!

"ICA officers working 'their guts out' to manage holiday Causeway congestion: Shanmugam

Ninety per cent of Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers were on duty and about 500 officers worked overtime last week to manage the high volume of traffic flow at the Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints during the Christmas holidays, according to Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam."

The causeway jam, at the Woodlands n Tuas checkpoints, is legendary. A test of one's extreme patience n tolerance for uncivilized behaviours by frustrated commuters trying to get through them a bit faster!

The jams hv been around for the longest time since i am aware what a jam is!!

In recent weeks, it seems to hv gotten a lot worst. Sometimes it is hard not to think that it is a torture rituals established by the Sgp n Msia governments for their citizens wanting to work (mainly Msians coming over) n b productive.

The facilities are like fortress. Designed to ensure no cars or lorries, unless it is an armour tank, can escape from the land between the 2 borders!

Anyway, the Minister is saying the Sgp ICA folks r working their guts out n there is a shortage of manpower. So, take it on the chin folks. Just take it!! Or fly up to KL! Forget abt driving!!

Or try your luck at ungodly hours between 1am to 4am?

Before we totally become depressed, the ray of hope is that the authority will b looking at ways to use technologies to overcome the manpower issue n improve efficiency, at least the Sgp side!!

My suggestions: 1. pre-registered the vehicles, passengers n goods electronically; 2. vehicles r tagged with electronics devices that can be scanned; 3. full truck size x-ray boxes for cargo trucks; 4. face recognition scanning of passengers in the car or bus!
