Daily Lessons from Life 20 December 2018 - Too much of a good thing?

"More Singaporeans getting help to deal with rising costs, public sector report shows

SINGAPORE: More Singaporeans received a helping hand from the Government, particularly those struggling to keep up with rising costs of living, over the past two years, according to the latest public sector report released on Thursday (Dec 20).

The Singapore Public Sector Outcomes Review (SPOR) showed that this assistance can be seen across various areas such as healthcare, housing, transport and living expenses. The report is prepared by the Ministry of Finance every two years to give a perspective on how the public sector is faring, the ministry said in the press release on the report."

While it is good that the gov is, n able to, provide financial help to the population that need them truly n urgently, should we also ask the question: WHY do we hv INCREASING MORE n MORE people that require these helps from the gov?

Are we treating the symptoms n not addressing the root causes of ever increasing cost of living n not necessarily the quality of living?

Is ever increasing rental n salaries the reasons for higher n higher cost of living?

Or inefficiency of the system n processes n poor human resources that combine to create this vicious cycle?

Or the need to grow the GDP numbers regardless of the quality of the growth make us like the dog chasing its tail going round n round endlessly for no real benefits?

Hope the public sector leaders will consider these questions besides patting themselves for being able to help more people with coping with higher cost of living!!
