"People's Association reimbursement claims flagged in AGO report being investigated by police: Chan Chun Sing

SINGAPORE: The police are looking into a case involving reimbursement claims made by a former People’s Association (PA) employee for overseas purchases for Chingay 2017.

The matter was flagged by the Auditor-General’s Office (AGO) in its report for financial year 2017/2018 that was released in July.

In Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 20), PA’s deputy chairman Chan Chun Sing revealed that the matter has been referred to the police.

Mr Chan said that an independent investigation panel led by a senior officer in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) was set up in June 2018 to look into the Chingay 2017 procurement, as well as to review past overseas Chingay purchases and payments."

Reading the details revealed that WP MP "Ah Huat" has been haunting Minister Chan abt why the government seems to accept some repeated internal control lapses of ministries n departments unveiled by AGO while AHTC case was put to court!

A nice one by Minister Chan that the government didn't sue AHTC as the suit was brought by a special penal appointed by AHTC itself!!

Where do all these to-ing n from-ing bring us? NO WHERE!

The fact is the AHTC case is b4 the court n the court will b passing a judgement if those accused r guilty as charged or not. If they r found guilty, what will be the sentence? If it involves clawing back the improper payments of Sgd33m+, these folks will hv to declare bankrupt unless they could crowd fund their way out.

That brings another issue! If they can crowd fund Sgd33m+, does ir mean they hv a lot of supporters or there r people, no foreigners involved, who want them to hv a chance to contest the next GE in 2019 or 2020 or 2021!

Anyway, the voters hv to decide if AHTC case is politically motivated or truly to show the imcompency OR dishonesty of the WP MPs!!
