"F-35: How the fifth-generation fighter jet might take RSAF to the next level

Indeed, why would we want to pay S$160m for 1 of these planes?
It may hv all the bestest n newest technologies, it is still a lot of money not counting the maintenance costs over it's lifespan.
Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen said the gov will decide soon in if we will buy this "game changer", don't they always claim this whenever they rolled out "new" product?
Hopefully we will learn more abt the rationales abt why we truly need this wonder killing machine! We will probably buy more than 1, yes?
The reasons i can anticipate are:
1. it has deterrent effect! We adopted the Israelis mentality; that we r always in danger of being conquered n must hv a strong deterrent force;
2. the cost of owning 10 F35 is only S$1.6B n with recurring maintenance cost of S$160m (assuming 10% of purchase price), it is PEANUT compare the hundred of billions in GDP these planes can "deter" any imaginary enemies from messing with us!!;
3. to b a "friend" of the nighty USA, we need to give them a reason to keep us as friend!! Remembered tje signing of some commercial airplanes when PM Lee became the 2nd PM of Sgp, after his dad late MM/SM/PM Lee, to be given a State Banquet a few years back?
4. other reasons that the gov can share with some citizens who may still don't get why Sgp needs these latest n bestest war planes. This is especially so with the persistent HDB "depreciating or appreciating" asset or "why health care costs r so high", etc. on the minds of citizens.
