Daily Lessons from Life 17 October 2018 - Keep it affordably spacious!!

SINGAPORE: In a bid to reduce the strain new developments pose on local infrastructure, the authorities have moved to ensure that there will be fewer shoebox units offered in new private non-landed residential buildings outside the Central area.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) revised guidelines for such properties on Wednesday (Oct 17), making several changes that it said also aim to moderate the reduction in home sizes and "safeguard the liveability" of residential estates. It has observed smaller unit sizes in new private housing projects."

I hv to applaud this policy move though some may say: "Let the mkt decide!"

Back in 1993 when i came back fr Hkg after my temporary expat assignment when i got to stay in a "bed room converted fr 2 rooms by knocking down the dividing wall" where i hv to move in m back out faced-in position becoz it was just tidy n narrow!!

I could hv moved to a bigger place but i didnt as it is convenient for travel to n from work.

I saw at that time in Sgp, the "Greed is good!" Far East developer touting "affordable small shoe box" units then n i wrote to the press when it got published that: it is unacceptable IF Sgp people hv to live like caged people, then Sgp cannot b a World Class vibrant city state!!

So, 30 yrs later, it is going to be an official policy to STOP  these absurdity of cutting per capita living space to UNLIVEABLE!!

So kudos to URA of stating this clearly!! We need this BADLY!!
