Daily Lessons from Life 25 August 2018 - Unhappy PMD users?

"PMD users say proposed speed limit difficult to comply with

Reactions to the Active Mobility Advisory Panel's recommendations are mostly negative. Personal mobility device users say that it would be difficult to comply with a proposed 10kmh speed limit on footpaths."

Honestly some of the PMD users who were unhappy need to think a bit more n deeper.

Of course, the authority can b clearer with why PMD were allowed in the 1st place!

My input:
1. PMD is for the last mile n never meant to b a substitute for motorbike or car.

It is also meant for people who r physically unable to walk or jog or run n hence never meant for anyone that need to travel faster than 10km/hr!!;

2. On shared path, PMD users, including manually powered bike users, r guests. As such, the pedestrians always get right of way!

The suggestion made by 1 of the Council member of "at walking pace every time PMD/bike passing pedestrian" is a great one. Unfortunately it was REJECTEC n that led him to resign fr thd Council. Am opportunity missed in my opinion!!

3. Enforcement issues

Yes it will b hard to enforce. So when it is, the penalties hv to ne so severe that NO ONE will try their luck! e.g. jail n heavy fines pkus caning!!

It will b on the PMD users n any shops or persons that set the speed limit cutoff toABOVE 10km/hr!

With severe punishment for offenders, no one will try their luck!!

Of course, the education of good ride manners n safety will continue. N also the dream n hope that a 1st world country DO N CAN hv 1st world citizens n residents that put safety of pedestrians over their needs for SPEED on PMD!!
