Well, my take:
1. "Live within your means!" is very good advice fr PM Lee. Especially on discretionary n non-essential things like: fancy n expensive foods, mobile telecom expenses, etc.
2. Gov's promises r: to provide affordable housing, healthcare, education n hawkers foods! Of course besides creating a save, secured n law abiding society!
These PM said they hv delivered mostly!
Do the people agree? For them to decide.
3. public housing
a. HIP2 at 60yrs old after HIP at 30yrs old. Good move to keep them fr deteriorating to slum! Will it keep their value up? I hope not as after 40yrs old, the flats should b depreciating unless there is a great shortage of public housing in Sgp fr massive immigration since Sgp's fertility rate has gone way down!!);
b. VERS - much details to b worked out;
c. monetizing last 30yrs through right sizing n get Silver Housing bonus, renting out rooms (to immigrants?) or sell-n-lease back, etc.
Still it does not stop it fr being a depreciating "asset"!!
4. healthcare cost
a. Merdeka Gen Package (MGP) for a group that supposedly did well during Sgp economics boom time! Will this inculcate n encourage "entitlement mentality"? can we use this "reserved resources (to be worked out) for genuine case-by-case needy?;
b. nothing was mentioned abt the root causes of higher n higher healthcare costs?? n how to reduce or keep them affordable? e.g. centralised bulk purchases of medicines? hunting n punishing severely medical insurance cheats - by doctors n insurers n insured!!
c. how preventive healthcare is doing vs. investment n expenditure on primary care? We need to track BOTH approaches right??
5. Water n electricity
a. electricity - how to get cheaper electricity with suplus production capacity in Sgp??;
b. water - not independent yet? if so, dependent on our ultimate position dealing with Msia!!
Also to massively promote more water conservation n optimal usages somehow! Pervasively!!
6. How to fund all these new ideas?
Is it through the mooted 2% hike in GST in 2020-2021? Recycled 99rs HDB land? Higher taxes all-round??
Fr the annual returns of the trillions National Reserves?
All these will be contingent on Sgp's economy doing well!!
Will we succeed? We will try for sure n good luck!!
