DANANG, Vietnam: A planned meeting of leaders of the eleven remaining countries in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) did not take place on Friday (Nov 10), officials said.
The leaders were set to meet in the afternoon on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam to discuss how to push ahead with TPP, after the US pulled out this year.
"The meeting did not happen, work remains to be done and that's what's happening now," a Canadian official said.
Trade ministers of the TPP countries had met on Thursday but it was not clear if any agreement had been reached. Japan had said an agreement in principle had been reached, but
Canada disputed that."
My take has always been: if u leave out China In anything that has most of Asian countries in it, it doesn't make any senses! This thingy is fatally injured by Trump's USA pulling out.
It is kind of weird to even try to work on this at the established APEC Summit where all the countries in the failed TPP r in it PLUS China n Russia!! Not forgetting WTO!
Let's not try to create too many layers n organisations so countries can post their retired loyal servants to fill jobs! Stop the waste n leverage on whatever existing multilateralism trade promoting organisations!!
Sgp wanting to be seen as the prime pushed of TPP should just pull back too. Without USA, many already said it is meaningless. More so with China, which is excluded, advocating for open trades while Trump's USA going "American 1st"!!
Cut our losses n move on. Discard the ego!!
