1. MRT breakdowns due to flooding in tunnel
1st time it affected the train services though water issue did happened before. This time it was serious enough to cause a breakdown.
Glad that no one mentioned "ponding" nor "It is once in 50-yr thingy" though it is disconcerting that the pump n backup systems both malfunctioned!!
Tks to the engineers n crews for the all nighter to salvage something!
There remains the quest to find out how could both pump n backup system failed to work at the same time. If it is a systemic problem, the mgt simply has to step up n account for these unsatisfactory lapses.
Also not to forget the small fire at trackside that went out by itself. There is a need to understand what could hv started in as fire in a tunnel cannot be treated lightly!
2. "Tan Cheng Bock engaging in 'elaborate charades' over remarks on reserved Presidential Election: Shanmugam"
Ok. Minister Shanmugan is respondingto Dr TCB's FB comments. He also made it clear that he had taken upon himself to speak on the motion raised by WP NO Sylvia Kim instead of letting or waiting for PM or DPM Teo or Minister Chan Chun Seng to respond.
He should hv just let go n not stir this poorly executed reserved Malay EP as EP Halimah tries to find a place to stay since "Yistana" didn't work out n people r still a bit upset at not being given a chance to vote for this specially reserved Malay EP n missed a public holiday!!
Anyway? It is good that he explained the role of the AGC in advising the government on when to count the 5 consecutive EP term from. To reveal the legal opinion or not is unimportant as every time is done properly. The government can count fr President Wee Kim Wee's term even though he was not the 1st EP.
For most layman, PM did seems to suggest the government will take whatever the AGC says. A bit strange to say: the government can decide on its own without the need for AGC's advice.
Honestly, whatever the government want, it will done. Not quite what Chiam See Tong said to late LKY: Whatever u want Mr Prime Minister in one of the managed engaged parliamentary sessions during their time.
Majulah Singapura!!
