Daily Lessons from Life 24 September 2017 - Sgp Poster Boy for IS? N Terrorists' playbook!

1. "Fighter in Islamic State video is believed to be radicalised Singaporean: MHA

SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday (Sep 24) said it believed a person featured in an Islamic State video was a Singaporean man named Megat Shahdan Abdul Samad.

The video, allegedly made by the media wing of Islamic State, features a fighter who claims to be "Abu 'Uqayl from Singapore". The 3min 30s clip has been circulating on social media.

In the video, "Abu 'Uqayl" and a few others in camouflage military attire are loading what look like artillery shells onto a truck with a machine gun mounted on it.

He turns to the screen and speaks in English, calling for people to join the Islamic State in East Asia, or to fight with Islamic State fighters in other areas such as Libya, Yemen, West Africa, and urges them to "sacrifice all that is precious".

He also addresses Britain's Prince Harry, taunting him to "come here and fight us if you're man enough".

"Our security agencies have been aware for some time now of the presence in Syria of a Singaporean, Megat Shahdan bin Abdul Samad (aged 39), and have been monitoring his activities," MHA said. "It is believed that the person in the video calling himself 'Abu Uqayl' is Shahdan."

Minister Shanmugan revealed the gov has been monitoring this guy. So, it is not a surprise.

Guessed the guy is now a poster boy for IS. Will he has special attraction to would be terrorists in Sgp?

Probably not as he is not really a celebrity.

This battle will always be fought as long as there r people who try to recruit others to be terrorists! So, there is no need for any special alarm.

Key is to hv people who know that terrorists r terrorists no matter what excuse they used to kill innocent people!

2. "'We must be very careful that we don't fall into trap of extremists': Vivian Balakrishnan in UN speech
SINGAPORE: Leaders should be "careful and measured" in their response to extremists, Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said in his speech at the 72nd session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Saturday (Sep 23).

"Extremists everywhere actually have a common playbook," he said. "First, commit an egregious act of violence. Second, stick a religious label on the situation in order to convey a sense of 'us' versus 'them'. Third, to eliminate the grey zone of moderates by causing alienation due to an overreaction.

"We must be very careful that we don’t fall into the trap of these extremists."

Citing the ongoing conflict in Myanmar's Rakhine state following a terrorist attack in August, Dr Balakrishnan said it was the responsibility of every government to protect every civilian, regardless of their ethnicity, religious belief or origin."

Indeed terrorists need new blood to die for them as the "old hands" will send these new blood to blow themselves up since them r too clever to believe there is a heaven with number of virgins waiting for them!!

Make any bad news transparent n let 3rd parties come in to report as they n the local see the going on. Only the truth cannot be fabricated for too long.

With transparency, fake news n "self-inflicted" atrocities will be revealed n the mostly peace loving masses will know the truth n be clear who r the bad guys really!!
