"In Bangladesh, aid agencies struggle with Rohingya influx
COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh: The exodus of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar into Bangladesh has reached 379,000 in just over two weeks, according to the latest estimates by aid agencies.
The population of refugees at the two official refugee campsites run by the United Nations refugee agency UNCHR in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar has doubled since Aug 25 - leaving aid groups struggling to cope with the influx.
Another roughly 188,000 refugees are living in spontaneous settlements - built haphazardly by roadsides, in forests along the border with Myanmar.
The Myanmar military offensive in the western state of Rakhine was triggered by a series of guerrilla attacks on Aug 25 on security posts and an army camp in which about a dozen people were killed.
“Nobody expected people in these numbers to come across at this speed,” said Chris Lom, spokesperson for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
“We are potentially going to have one of the world’s largest (internally displaced persons) IDP camps in one concentrated area.”"
Honestly, while my heart aches for the Rohinya refugees, my rational mind said: NO COUNTRY in the world is ready to take in mass refugees. The sad thing is that this phenomenon is repeated again and again all over the world. e.g. the situation Italy faced some time ago; Australia, some time ago; etc.
The USA is trying to close its border to the illegal Mexicans as it inflow simply just overwhelm the resources available to take care of them. What happened if there was a civil war and the Mexicans crossing the border are REFUGEES? I am sure President Trump WILL double and triple his effort to KEEP THEM OUT. Forget about humanitarian compassion and what not. Of course, the more liberal of Americans will cry foul and protest and what not, until their OWN lives are overwhelmed by the sheer number of refugees like what is happening NOW in Bangladesh!
The TRUTH is, NO COUNTRY in the world is able to ACCOMMODATE refugees when they numbered past hundreds of thousands! Most of those who are most vocal are probably physically thousands of miles from the 'place of origin when the refugees come from'! It is a hypocritical act REALLY!
The same, by the way, goes with us, human beings, knowing nothing about handling nuclear waste properly besides containing them and buried closest to the core of Mother Earth and hope that they would leak in a hundred or thousand years!
I know not how to deal with the nuclear waste THOUGH I know the ONLY WAY to defuse the Refugees crisis is to STOP it at source. i.e. make the 'homeland' where the refugees are fleeing from a 'home they won't want to leave'! HOW? No one OUTSIDE the 'home country' know how. Many may say they think they know. YET, they are either overly optimistic or they are just lying with their eyes wide open! ONLY the locals can solve this puzzle and contradiction. MAKE the 'homeland' a home that is safe and the well being of everyone is prioritized and respected. MAKE them resolve the Differences peacefully or have their LEADERS fight it out till death without involving the majority of the refugees as NONE of them wanted this plight of 'escaping or running away' from their home!!
