"PM Lee will nominate Tan Chuan-Jin as Speaker, Desmond Lee to be Minister at MSF
An interesting choice. If we just based on history, no speaker of parliament has full minister rank in the past n so the conventional wisdom says Mr Tan Chuan Jin will be out of the running for the 4th gen leadership team.
I think if that is true, it will be a loss to the Sgp government. He can do more n must be in the cabinet instead of just the speaker of parliament!!
So, I believe this IS an unusual path PM Lee has envisioned for Mr Tan n that he WILL BE BACK in the cabinet after a while. Otherwise, PM Lee would be seen to hv made another mistake after the 2-day special parliamentary session on private matter n going ahead with the reserved EP thingy despite a doubting crowds.
Mr Tan, all the best in this new role n hope u will be back in the cabinet as we need every talent we hv to lead the country.
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will nominate Mr Tan Chuan-Jin as the new Speaker of Parliament when the House convenes next Monday, announced the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement on Tuesday (Sep 5).
Mr Tan, who is currently Minister for Social and Family Development, will have to be elected by Members of Parliament (MPs). He succeeds Mdm Halimah Yacob who resigned last month to contest the Presidential Election."
