1. Revelation of train cracks may produce panics
For the 1st time I have doubts about what the government is telling me. That is not good as trust between the people and the government must be strong and mutual.
The train cracks news were supposedly "leaked" or published by overseas news sources. It got picked up, now we can assume somewhat reluctantly, and nobody panicked. There were questions though, and rightly so, as to why it was not revealed earlier.
The answer by Minister Khan, unfortunately, is one of the worst. It is one of the worst as:
a. there was no panics. A fact. It means the government does not know it's people enough. Or, it was a bad call.
b. it shows late of sensitivity as there was no panic. How could this be overlooked.
More questions to answer from this answer?
2. International laws n Power
So the international tribunal has ruled that China has no legal basis to claim the territories in dispute with the Philippines. As expected or as anticipated. By China too actually.
China has categorically exclaimed that this hearing is a farce and that it will not abide or adhere to the ruling. Their media, a lot less free, than Singapore and many other countries have been publishing views that accused certain powers of interfering with China's sovereignty. And that China will never yield to such pressures and will depend its right resolutely and at all costs.
As for the USA, who actually has not signed the international maritime convention, is suggesting everyone should respect the international laws.
The Philippines while celebrating this favorable ruling has no stomach to confront this emerging giant called China. Not even with the USA backing as the new President probably doesn't believe the USA can have the resources to really support and confront China.
So, the rule of international dispute is best understood by Putin's Russia. Might is the rule. Annexed Eastern Ukraine I shall. Shot down a civilian plane I shall. What can the international community do to me!!
While China may not react as crudely as Putin. It certainly will disregards international condemnation and show the world: Might is the rule. Nine-dot are my territorial map. The rest of you can go figure it out!!
What next from USA? from the Philippines? And from Asean?
Peace and harmony we shall get. If it is business as usual China's way?
Hmm.
