"Suspect in Dallas police attack wanted to 'kill white people': Chief - AFP 09 July 2016
At least one sniper in Dallas killed five police officers and wounded seven more in a coordinated attack that ended when police used a bomb to kill a shooter who told them he wanted to kill white officers, authorities said Friday.
The attack came during one of several protests across the United States against the killing of two black men by police this week, the latest in a long string of killings that gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Police described Thursday night's ambush as carefully planned and executed and said they had taken three people into custody before killing the fourth after a long standoff in a downtown garage.
"We had an exchange of gunfire with the suspect. We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot," Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters at City Hall. "The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter," said Brown, who is black."
The land of the free. Totally free is what most of them, or at least some of them who had not had their loved ones killed by a gun for no reason! Hence, their insistence to have none of these 'gun control' laws that had been put forward, debated or not, but never been approved! They say: to bear arms is a constitutional right that is inviolable! Never mind it was created during the wild wild West period where America is a frontier for many migrants from UK and other places. Where laws and order were not really fully developed and observed. Where the USA is not touting itself as the leading light of the free world and wanting or 'inspiring' others around the world to be like USA!
It had been so many years since the Black Panthers time. Yes, I must say I was fascinated with the Black American Olympians champions raising their fist with black glove at their winning ceremony. Thought they were quite cool! Little did I know, as a young ignorant person, that they were asserting their right as much a part of the USA as the 'supreme' white Americans! Or maybe I did and I just don't care except that 'stylo mylo' gesture and posture!
Fast forward to the end of the 2nd term of the 1st Black American President. A man who speaks eloquently. A man who heralded much hope when 1st elected. Alas, even he cannot get 'gun control' laws through. Strange that EVERYONE knows the reason: the National Riffles Club (NRC), the anti-gun control lobby, is too powerful as its 'riches' funded MANY law-makers in the USA!!
At least that has been the KEY reason why the USA has not made ANY progress on 'gun control' despite the 'occasional' indiscriminate killing of innocent people, young and old, in these cases without regards to colours of the victims, some accidentally killed his or her own parents or children.
Statistically, these incidents are 'insignificant' vs. the national population and those legally licensed gun holders. Indeed, national average and statistic are emotionless. If, touch woods, one or many of those 'anti-gun control' folks, including the law-makers, had their loved ones killed in such an incident, would statistic provides any comfort to them?
Still there will be 'idealists' that insist USA must be 'totally free to bear arms' while another set of 'idealists' will insist that 'responsible freedom if the way to go'!
"God bless America" as the USA President will normally sign off his (soon to be her?) speech dealing with 'gun control' and 'race relation'.
