"Lee Wei Ling's accusations 'completely untrue': PM Lee - CNA 10 April 2016
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Sunday (Apr 10) responded to comments made on Facebook by his sister Lee Wei Ling.
In a statement on Facebook, Mr Lee said: “I am deeply saddened by my sister Dr Lee Wei Ling’s claim that I have abused my power to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s passing in order to establish a dynasty. The accusations are completely untrue."
He added: "The first anniversary of a person’s passing is a significant moment to remember him and reflect on what he meant to us. The more so with Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The Cabinet had discussed how we should mark the occasion. My advice was that we should leave it to ground-up efforts. Groups should keep their observances in proportion, and focused on the future."
Personally I am not hero-worshipper as I ONCE hero-worshipped Sgt. Sauder, the character played by the late Mr Vic Morror, in an American TV WWII series about the Yankees fighting the Nazis Germen army as a LITTLE BOY.
As I grow up, I realise that WAR is basically an insanity. Soldiers killing another soldiers called the enemies who are actually someone' son, brother, husband, boy-friend, friend, cousins, etc. etc. in the name of WAR. Since, I no longer hero-worshipped.
Late Mr Lee Kuan Yew has done a lot for Singapore. I have reiterated that many times in the past. He is GONE. One year on. If someone wants to commemorate his passing ON their own. Go ahead!
Is PM Lee trying to create a dynasty? The detractors may want to say 'Yes'. However, for that to happen, the next generation of LEEs have to be in politics too. As long as THAT had not HAPPENED, there is no dynasty to talk about.
It SHOULD be the Lee's family internal affairs. I RATHER NOT know about this.
It is SAD indeed that their differences are in public view. Now that IT IS in public view, the MOST RESPECTFUL course of actions for the PUBLIC is to let it be. NO NEED for speculations. Just RESPECTFULLY let the LEEs take it OFFLINE.
As for 'dynasty building', PM Lee is probably right. Even if he wants to, Singaporeans may not allow it. After all, it is still a democracy where every 4-5 years, there will be a General Election for the voters to CHOOSE the next government.
Peace to the world. Peace to the LEE's families.
Look forward. Skills future. PSLE future. Economy future. What-have-you FUTURE. As the FUTURE is NOT as sure as our past successes, warts and all.
No energy should be wasted on this little 'family disagreement'. YES?
