Daily Lessons from Life 08 March 2016 - Early haze? International Women Day!

1. "Indonesian province declares emergency as forest fires flare - CNA 8 March 2016

Indonesia's western province of Riau has declared a state of emergency over forest and land fires blazing on the island of Sumatra, a government official said on Tuesday."

NO KIDDING! Are you SERIOUS?!! Forest fires that can potentially produce the type of choking haze for more than 4 months in 2015 are already starting? Or that the Indonesian authorities are trying to sound the alarm EARLY and keep it in the mind of the people. So that THE PEOPLE who are victims of the haze CAN START taking actions to STOP this in its track!

I sure hope it is what the authorities want accomplished. I commended a month or two back that President Jokowi's administration EARLY sounding of the threat of the 2015 Haze disaster repeating itself is apt and "keep this threat in everyone's face"!

2. Today is the International Women Day! A tribute to half of humanities, half the human race where without them there will be no continual life to talk about.

Women have come a long way in the world. Even in today's so-called liberal countries like USA, UK, etc. women are still facing some forms of discrimination and unfair treatment. Not to talk about those women in certain countries where their religions simply treat them like: by the way!

For me, it cannot be right that any religion exclude and demote the female believers to a grossly unequal status as the male believers. All must be born equal. What they make of their lives subsequently may be different due to their choices. Of course, the timing, place, environment etc. play a role.

In Singapore of today, babies born here are very lucky. They are less likely to end up as part of the infant mortality rate like other impoverished and under-developed countries!

I salute all mothers, wives, sisters and friends of all men. We must be grateful to have the other half to complete us!
