Daily Lessons from Life 06 January 2016 - Not Enough Troubles?

"North Korea claims 'successful' hydrogen bomb test after quake - CNA/AFP/Reuters 6 Jan 2016

SEOUL: North Korea said Wednesday it had carried out a "successful" hydrogen bomb test, a claim that -- if true -- massively raises the stakes over the hermit state's banned nuclear programme.

"The republic's first hydrogen bomb test has been successfully performed at 10:00 am on January 6, 2016, based on the strategic determination of the Workers' Party," a state television news reader said.

A hydrogen, or thermonuclear device, uses fusion in a chain reaction that results in a far more powerful explosion than the fission blast generated by uranium or plutonium alone.

"There took place a world startling event to be specially recorded in the national history spanning 5,000 years," a government statement read, as reported by North Korean media outlet KCNA.

"Through the test conducted with ingenious wisdom, technology and efforts the DPRK fully proved that the technological specifications of the newly developed H-bomb for the purpose of the test were accurate," the statement continued.

The announcement by North Korean state media came two days before Kim's birthday and just over four years after he succeeded his father as leader of the Stalinist state.

The website of the China Earthquake Network Centre described the seismic activity as a "suspected explosion", while the Japanese government said there was a strong possibility that "this might be a nuclear test".

A nuclear test is a major slap in the face to the North's chief ally China and extinguish any chance of a resumption of six-country talks on North Korea's nuclear programme that Beijing has been pushing for."

In the Middle East, the Muslim countries of Iran and Saudi Arabia and its allies are engaged in 'sectarian' spats. The world stock markets tanked in its 1st 2 days of trade. Now, the mystical North Korea claimed a successful launch of a H-Bomb! What MORE can we ask for in the 1st week of 2016!!

Lessons for me are:

a. there is no way to talk sense with anyone who is obsessed totally and single-mindedly to 'Do it MY WAY or NO WAY'!;

b. PRC China thought it has some influence over North Korea young Kim. Well. Not so apparently! Typical of a Young Turk trying to carve out his power boundary and stamp his authority telling the 'elders' that this is a NEW order and the OLD ones simply do not matter anymore!;

c. what is the 'sensible' response then? There is NO sensible response. Just 'suck it up' UNTIL one decides WHAT to do with the rebellious Young Turk! e.g. to 'take him out' or 'to play his game at his own rules' or 'wait-and-see'! 'Wait-and-see' is simply interim measure. One CANNOT leave an open position with 'such obsessed minded' person!
