Hi there. Had been delinquent on the last few nights updates to the blog due to overloading and lack of prioritization. Now doing a catch up for the last 3 days:
1. FIFA Reversal
I celebrated FULL HEARTILY when the FIFA President RESIGNED after 'winning' the election just a few days back. He SAID he has the mandate of the members but did not feel that the rest of football world supported his appointment. Hence, he decided to resign.
WHATEVER! The key is: he who had ruled FIFA for more than 18 years has RESIGNED. This after FIFA had been roiled in MANY scandals involving unethical and corrupt behaviours and practices in his reign! Sure he has done a fantastic job from a financial standpoint by reviving a FIFA that was a financial disaster to one with many billions in its coffers. YET, what happen to honesty and integrity? Is that the price to pay?
NOW the footballing world can tell the million of kids around the world that they can play the BEAUTIFUL Game with the knowledge that IF YOU ARE CORRUPT, you will pay the price. It is a matter of WHEN instead of IF you will pay the price should you become corrupt!!
2. China Ferry Disaster
More than 400 people are still missing. Many elderly folks. The typical hysterical emotional reactions by the Chinese relatives were captured on TVs for all to see. This despite the debates that were raging when similar scenes were captured and screened during the MH317 disaster if such grieving SHOULD be kept private!!
In any case, as this case happened in China, the Chinese people can really let loose their emotion on the local authorities. Some of the relatives demanded transparency and timely updates on the investigation on the cause of the tragedy as 'man-made' instead of 'caused by the sudden tornedo' as claimed!
It will be intense as the relatives of the dead and the missing pressure the local government to investigate thoroughly and with timely and transparent disclosure of the salvage operation and the cause of the deadliest disaster in China.
3. SEA Game in S'pore
Singapore is hosting the SEA Game again after a 22-year gap. The government has pulled up all the stops to make sure that it is a spectacular event celebrating the SG50 too!
The opening ceremony was today 5 June 2015 and broadcasted live on TV. I did not get to watch it but was informed that it opened with a bang and some excitement and then went lame after that. If true, that will be a disappointment. Let's see what the media makes of it in tomorrow 6 June newspapers and reporting.
I am not for Opening nor Closing Ceremonies type of guy. Perhaps it does not really matter as 'artistic expression' and the 'assessment of the same' are SO SO subjective.
It will be ok to just go with the popular vote of: like or not-so-like or dislike!
p/s: 4 June came and gone in China, and even in Hkg, as a fairly tame affairs. It is good in a way as 4 June WAS one of the pivotal moments in China history that COULD have led to the disintegration of the Communist China as we know it then and there might not have this weird creature called: Communist China with a Chinese Characteristics Capitalism!
