"LGBT rally forms sea of pink at Hong Lim Park - CNA 14 June 2015
SINGAPORE: Pink Dot SG, the annual rally to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights, had its annual light-up on Saturday night (Jun 13).
It was a sea of pink as supporters turn out in full force at the event's seventh year at Hong Lim Park, and organisers said they had the largest turnout ever with some 28,000 people.
In a news conference earlier in the day, organisers said the growing numbers point to a more accepting Singapore. Plans to expand the event are also in the works, but only if they are able to find a larger venue.
Organisers say this year also marked a record number of sponsors but declined to reveal the event's total sponsorship. They say that with local entertainment giant Cathay Organisation coming on board, they are hopeful more local companies will declare their support next year.
Pink Dot has also travelled beyond Singapore's shores. Last week, Taipei held its first ever Pink Dot. Others holding their versions of Pink Dot annually are Hong Kong, and Okinawa in Japan."
Good that the news report did not mention anything about some religious people holding a 'white attire' day in response to the pink dot festival.
Lessons for me are:
1. from a natural procreation perspective, LGBT union is unnatural. That is a fact unless proven scientifically by the state!;
2. some LBGTs are due to the mutation of nature and these cases must be given understanding and for us to include them in our society in the main stream! There is no 2-way about this treatment. However, IF it is a lifestyle choice, we need to understand why the particular lady or man decide to marry a person of the same gender? Is it fad and fashionable or there are something deeper that we need to learn and know?;
3. as for those religious people who are against LBGT and wanted to hold a 'White dress' day to protect, I am glad nothing much had bee reported about them. When it comes to sensitive topics and issues, I preferred that EACH talks about the GOOD parts of whatever their beliefs are BUT refrained from criticising or attacking the others' philosophies or religon or anything!
4. from an economics perspective, with more acceptance of such a lifestyle, I guessed the merchants and businessmen will invite them and make money from this unique customer segment named: LBGT!
Move on Pink Dot.
