Daily Lessons from Life 09 June 2015 - I have no knowledge, Triumph Champion and Worst Offender!

1. "Najib: I have no knowledge of money laundering by 1MDB - The Star/ANN  Jun 09, 2015

PETALING JAYA - Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) says he has no knowledge of any claims of money laundering by Government investment arm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

"The accusation by certain parties that money laundering occurred is for the Auditor-General and PAC (Public Accounts Committee) to address in their comprehensive reports."

However, I would like to state that I had no knowledge of any money laundering by 1MDB. Should anyone be found guilty of money laundering, they will be brought to justice," said the Prime Minister.

Najib, who is also 1MDB advisory board chairman, was responding to allegations of money laundering by the Government investment arm, in the third instalment of frequently asked questions (FAQs) on his official website, najibrazak.com."

Mr Najib is caught in a very unenviable position: 'damned if he do and damned if he don't!' Messy!!

2. "SEA Games champion triumphs over eating disorder, self-mutilation - Jun 08, 2015 The New Paper

As a national canoeist, Suzanne Seah has steered her kayak through some of the choppiest waters amid unpredictable condition.

She has three SEA Games gold medals in the K2 200m and 500m events to her name, but the 24-year-old's biggest victory may just be staying afloat when an eating disorder and a self-harm problem threatened to pull her under.

By sharing her story, Seah hopes to encourage those who are facing similar issues to seek help and appreciate life.

"I was in a girls' school, and there were a lot of skinny girls. My school was next to a boys' school. Boys like skinny girls, so you do the math," she told The New Paper. "It could have been something a boy said, or his body language, I can't really remember because it happened when I was around 15, but I started to feel like I needed to be thin to fit in.""

Kudos to Ms Seah for sharing her hollowing experience with 'eating disorder and self-harm' and how she triumphed over them to emerge a Champion! When I facilitate Leadership programs, I often ask the participants of this question: WHY do you want to be a leader?

In variably 'fame and fortune' will come up though most relented only after I 'pushed' them as it is deemed 'not so right' to be motivated by 'fame and fortune' to want to be a leader. Especially in a commercial business environment!

I often add this statement too after getting them to acknowledge 'fame and fortune' could be 2 of the big factors that push them to want a higher position and climb the corporate ladder: 'If FAME and FORTUNE are the ONLY reasons for you to climb the corporate ladder and in life, YOU WILL trip and fall eventually. It will be a matter of when and NOT if you will fall.'

So, use the 'fame and fortune' to DO MORE GOOD. Like what Ms Seah is doing here. Using her INSPIRATIONAL story of a 'famed Sport Champion' to help OTHERS who are suffering from similar challenges and traumas to get out of the 'self-imposed I cannot escape this vicious cycle'!

My respect to her and wish her MANY MORE successes to come!

3. "Youth counsellor jailed 7 months for taking naked photos of 12-year-old girl - CNA 09 June 2019

SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old male youth counsellor was sentenced to seven months' jail for taking naked photographs of a 12-year-old girl.

Before District Judge Low Wee Ping in the State Courts Tuesday (Jun 9), the youth counsellor pleaded guilty to the charge but the defence counsel highlighted the series of good deeds the accused has done for society."

It is a shame the 'do-gooder' succumbed to temptation and committed an offence on people he is trained, and supposedly committed, to help!

Whenever such a case happened, the offender should expect the maximum punishment and the harshest of criticism from society. Derelict of the public trust and the professional trust of a sacred vocation like youth counsellor must be condemned fully.

It will be hard to expect all do-gooders to be Saints. At the same time, whenever do-gooders succumbed to temptation and strayed, there are consequences. Just be prepared and accept should, heaven forbid, it comes to that!

Whatever the mitigating circumstances may be, hope that this offender will serve his just sentence and hopefully WILL get back on his feet and do good again!

A difficult world we live in to be good and do good consistently!
