Daily Lessons from Life 18 May 2015 - Neighbours Disputes ...

No news headlines to comment on tonight.

Instead I want to relate a personal experience on how to handle neighbours dispute if one is even been asked to handle!

Lessons for me are:

1. NEVER take the case IF ALL the parties are NOT present at the same time! You never know what those present had hidden facts from you that they are not proud to tell you which their neighbours would gladly tell you! i.e. each has their 'dark secrets' of 'being a bad neighbour' but conveniently forgot to mention to you!;

2. of course as the preliminary investigation, listen to 'one side of the story' while at the same time NEVER ever make ANY CONCLUSION as the picture painted by one side is never the complete picture. Scenarios 'painted' in item 1.1 above are all so real!;

3. as we recalled the infamous 'neighbours from hell in some East Coast private residential estate sometimes back, the laws have no teeth to get the neighbours to attend compulsory mediation session and that dragged the saga on for unnecessarily long period. Now the new laws will come into effect starting from 1 July 2015 that the Mediation Court has the power to compel ALL neighbours in disputes MUST attend the Mediation Session on time and ready to talk! This is great. At least with this process, the REAL disputes can be heard from all parties involved and the independent mediators can at least discharge their duties properly!

As neighbours, it simply is irrational to live in disharmony and be nasty about each other! That would had been a daily affairs and can drive people nut!!

May there be NO neighbours disputes.
