Daily Lessons from Life 02 April 2015 - Good Friday Eve's Ranting?

It is the Good Friday eve and maybe I just 'rant' a little at the crazy world that we inhibit?

1. "Mahathir launches attack on PM Najib - AFP  Apr 02, 2015

Influential former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday launched a stinging attack on beleaguered Prime Minister Najib Razak, demanding explanations in two highly sensitive scandals and warning the ruling party will lose power with Najib at the helm.

Mahathir's broadside is significant because the retired 89-year-old former strongman spearheaded a campaign against his own successor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, that resulted in Abdullah's 2009 ouster and replacement by Najib."

This 'elder stateman' picked his successors and then undermined them later. A crazy thing to do but seems like par in our neighbour, Malaysia. Of course, it is not for us to comment on this delicate and unique way of dealing with the political leaders as it should be, rightly so, the prerogative of the Malaysian people with the democratic voting power to decide.

2. "A*Star scholarship holder charged with poisoning classmates - The Straits Times Apr 02, 2015

An A*STAR scholarship holder who was doing cancer research at one of America's top universities has been accused of trying to poison her laboratory mates using a toxic chemical.

Singaporean Ouyang Xiangyu, 27, now faces a trial in California after being charged with four counts of poisoning the drinking water of classmates at her graduate studies lab in Stanford University last year.

Currently out on US$50,000 (S$68,600) bail but not allowed to leave the country, she is expected to plead not guilty due to insanity.

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) told The Straits Times yesterday that it was "deeply concerned" over the incident. "There will be no action on our part until after the proceedings have concluded," a spokesman said.

Ouyang received A*Star's National Science Scholarship (PhD) in 2013 after her outstanding performance in her undergraduate studies at Imperial College London."

A case of too much too soon and overstretched mind? Some were debating that she was originally from China so she is not really Singaporean; as if a so-called REAL locally born and bred Singaporean would NOT had committed such a crime under intense pressure!

It reminded me a few years ago when travelling in China that some Chinese friends were joking that the first greeting when they met their old classmates or hostel-mates at the alumni reunion dinner was: "Thank you for not poisoning me THEN!" Reason: there were a few cases of students from elite universities in China reportedly were poisoning and/or murdering their classmates because they had OUTSHONE the defendants!!

Maybe the 'risk it all' 'rewards system' encourage the 'scholars' to be competitive and 'must success at all costs'??

Thankfully this type of extreme behaviours is rare. Yet, every single case is a sad sad situation.

The power to stay even keel while under tremendous pressure is hard to attain. Without it, life can be treacherous.

3. "Masked Islamists seize Kenya student hostages, kill 15 - AFP  Apr 02, 2015

Masked gunmen from Somalia's Shebab Islamist group stormed a Kenyan university Thursday as students were sleeping, hurling grenades and shooting dead at least 15 people before taking Christians hostage.

Scores of others were wounded in the assault, still ongoing some 12 hours after the first grenades were used to blast open the gates of the university in the northeastern town of Garissa, near the lawless border with war-torn Somalia.

The Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab claimed the pre-dawn attack, the same insurgents who carried out the Westgate shopping mall massacre in Nairobi September 2013, when four gunmen slaughtered at least 67 people in a four-day bloodbath."

Another senseless to most, but definitely justified and righteous, killing by this bunch of so-called Islamist group KILLERS!

Any person who KILL in the name of his or her RELIGION MUST be mad, delusional and a real and present danger to SOCIETY! Any LIBERALs who want to give this type of people the NORMAL and rightful human rights of 'religious freedom' and what not ARE also accomplices of murder and delusional.

Good Friday is coming tomorrow. May we find PEACE and ORDER in this chaotic world where it is no longer easy to teach our kids what is Black and White, what is RIGHT and WRONG!

May we somehow FIND our own ways to deal with this stark and cruel REALITY, the right way.
