1. "Fifth disruption to SMRT services in over a week - CNA 03 March 2015
SINGAPORE: Train services along the East West Line were disrupted for nearly one and a half hours due to "track faults at both Clementi and Lakeside stations", SMRT said in a statement to the media on Tuesday evening (Mar 3).
SMRT said the disruption began at 5.35pm and commuters were advised to add 20 minutes travelling time for train services between Bugis and Jurong East stations in both directions. Services resumed at 7.12pm.
Commuter Nur Azleen Asman tweeted that her train had been stuck between Jurong East and Clementi stations since 5.25pm. She added that her train arrived at Clementi station at 6.10pm, and no instructions were given while she was stuck on board.
Another passenger, Alexy, who was on board a train towards Clementi, tweeted at 6.16pm: "The train is literally crawling." It arrived at Clementi station at 6.23pm.
Mr Lee Ling Wee, Managing Director, SMRT Trains, said: “While SMRT’s investigations into these four incidents indicate that the cause of each incident was different and technically unrelated, we are clear that any service lapse for whatever reason affects the quality and reliability of service to our commuters. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to our commuting public. The SMRT team is doing what it can to increase the reliability and availability of our train services.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) issued a strongly worded statement on Tuesday evening, calling the disruptions "unacceptable".
LTA said it has directed SMRT to investigate the various disruptions and give a full account of them. It is also conducting independent investigations."
Just as MOST believed that the MRT disruptions are BEHIND us, it struck not once nor twice but 5 times in the past week!
Maybe the Budget2015 should be giving MORE taxpayers' money to SMRT to run the MRT Businesses and guaranteed it a PROFIT since the Company has CONSISTENTLY been saying that IT is NOT really interested in this Line of Business ("LOB") as it is 'losing buckets of money'! OK. They did not say it so categorically. They just said: transportation LOB is not making money but the 'Real Estate' LOB is!
2. "Concerns over Silver Support Scheme, SkillsFuture initiatives AND many others like: not to rely on NIR (Net Investment Returns), more incentives for CPF top-up scheme, direct caregivers' allowances, etc were RAISED in the Parliamentary Debates on Budget2015."
Perhaps 1 or some of the them could have spoken up about the one-liner in the Budget 2015 Statement on Transportation: "Make Singapore a highly liveable city - Improve public transport and develop our heartlands into vibrant homes and communities!"
How can a 5-disruption in a week MRT system be 'an improvement'!! LOL!!
Anyway, the CONCERNS on Silver Support Scheme are MISPLACED IF:
Singapore can reduce the BOTTOM 20-30% of Senior above 65 years old who: has very low lifetime income AND with NO household support AND living in HDB Flat, it is NOT an issue. YES? So the efforts SHOULD be to create an environment that WILL produce LESS of such 'beneficiaries'! For crying out loud!!
As for proper use of SkillsFuture Credit and the various Fellowship and Leadership awards, I thought the WDA and MOM had gotten this ALL mapped out!
e.g. WDA is certifying those 'qualified courses and programs', it is also delivering SOME of the programs besides certifying many CETCs (Continuing Education & Training Centres), so supposedly ONLY qualified, and hence deemed RELEVANT, programs will get the SkillsFuture Credit.
And when it comes to awarding Fellowship and Leadership (this one is questionable as I strongly feel that the Beneficiary and the companies he/she work for SHOULD take up this investment as at this level the beneficiary SHOULD already be paid a decent compensation package. NO?), let the relevant authorities do their interview and selection in due course. Just like giving out scholarship, you honestly hope that the scholarship board/body KNOW what they are looking for in a worthy candidate!
It is with a tinge of SADNESS that I find the MPs who had spoken on Day 1 fairly lame. Or maybe it is just me not able to understanding why they are concerned about some of the topics they raised? Oh well...
