Daily Lessons from Life 05 February 2015 - CPF proposals make a good deal better: PM

1. "CPF proposals make a good deal better: PM - The Straits Times Feb 05, 2015

THE recommendations of an advisory panel to make the Central Provident Fund (CPF) scheme more flexible for Singaporeans, based on their retirement needs, are appropriate as people seek greater say and security for their savings in old age, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.

The proposals announced yesterday are good, he added, while noting that even today, quite a number of people leave their money in their CPF accounts instead of taking out what they can at their drawdown age.

"They don't get a lot of publicity, they don't jump around at Hong Lim Green, but they quietly know this is a good deal. And what the committee is recommending, makes it an even better deal," he said.

"They don't just get 2.5 per cent (interest) on the amount they put in, they are going to get 4 per cent on the amount they are putting in. And it will see to the needs of the middle and lower end of the population, which is a benefit for Singaporeans." Mr Lee was speaking to Singapore journalists at the end of his four-day official visit to Germany, where he met top German leaders and businessmen."

I am at a loss at WHY PM Lee has to mention: 'they don't jump around at Hong Lim Green'!

Lessons for me are:

1. the jury is STILL OUT on if the people will be appeased by the CPF Committee's recommendation that supposedly, by and large, 'conformed' to PM Lee's vision articulated during the last National Day Rally Speech;

2. this 'not jumping around at Hong Lim Green' comments are not helpful as many would have pointed out that ALL the actions and reactions that come to being and still ongoing IS due to Blogger Roy asking questions of how CPF Fund works and IF it can work better, albeit Blogger Roy made some libellous comments against PM Lee in the process, for which he is paying for it;

3. is it not true that the higher interest rate of 4% is only for the amount up to the 1st S$60k? Or this has been changed in this 'latest proposal'? If so, does it mean those who have MORE MONEY will benefit MORE? I thought the government SHOULD be less worried about those with LOTS of MONEY in the CPF fund?

Will be interesting to see how the voters respond to these changes for the CPF. And of course the Budget 2015 that will be announced soon...

2. "Islamic State selling, crucifying, burying children alive in Iraq - UN:  Reuters  Feb 05, 2015

GENEVA - Islamic State militants are selling abducted Iraqi children at markets as sex slaves, and killing other youth, including by crucifixion or burying them alive, a United Nations watchdog said on Wednesday.

Iraqi boys aged under 18 are increasingly being used by the militant group as suicide bombers, bomb makers, informants or human shields to protect facilities against US-led air strikes, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said."

If these allegations are true and it is done systematically, it is deliberate and should be tried as war crimes. Such dastardly behaviours that even the most savage beasts will be ashamed of!
