Daily Lessons from Life 21-25 November 2014 - Various Topics ...

Yes. Was in the country with the Great China Firewall on Friday 21 Nov 2014 night till the evening of 25 Nov 2015 with no access to VPN and hence, no blogging!!

1. "Dying for sex - Nov 25, 2014 The Straits Times

SINGAPORE - At least 11 men have died and more than 300 suffered nasty reactions after taking illegal sex drugs over the past six years.

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said the "adverse reactions" included dangerously low blood sugar levels and lapsing into a coma.

The oldest to land in hospital was a 97-year-old who obtained four pink tablets from a friend "for enjoyment with women". He took a pill at lunch and was found unconscious by his son."

If not for the tragic loss of lives, it would be funny to learn that men of advance age still want sex badly enough to risk their lives!! Surely with the established brands like Viagra and what-not from established global pharmaceutical companies available legally, it is difficult to understand why these men turned to 'illegal' remedies!

2. 'S'pore student in China sex scandal - China Daily/Asia News Network  Nov 25, 2014

BEIJING - One of China's top schools, Peking University, has fired an associate professor accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a Singaporean student.

Yu Wanli, then an associate professor at the School of International Studies, was accused of having sex with the woman, named Wang Jing, and getting her pregnant."

Well, this is purely coincident or the editors from SPH just want to focus on the topic: sex! Something similar happened to a NUS law professor and his student too. That one went to the courts of law in fact resulting in the Professor serving out a jail sentence which he was subsequently acquitted of the 'sexual offence'! He too lost his job, rightly so given he was married and the expectation of the proper behaviours of a university lecturer by society.

3. 'Hong Kong police spray 'burning' substance at protesters, arrest 30 - AFP  Nov 25, 2014

HONG KONG - Hong Kong police sprayed pro-democracy protesters Tuesday and made more than 30 arrests as they moved in to clear a city street blocked by demonstrators for nearly two months.

Officers in helmets, with some carrying batons, faced off against dozens of protesters at the site in Mongkok district, the scene of some of the most violent clashes between demonstrators and authorities since the sit-ins began in three locations on September 28."

It has finally started. Removal by force. Hopefully the police has provided enough budgets for the press and their own film crews to DOCUMENT that the police had exhausted ALL available peaceful options at the protest sites BEFORE resorting to 'force'. It is important to have a social media strategy to 'attack' or neutralised the many 'self-filmed' videos of the police using FORCE WITHOUT the benefits of what happened prior to the 'force' being applied!

4. US Defence Secretary 'Resigned'

The few, if not the only, Republican in Obama's cabinet has resigned this morning in the USA. He was not seeing eyes-to-eyes with his 'boss', President Obama, on how to handle ISIS or just IS and the campaign in Afghanistan. He is probably also a 'the most convenient person to fire' since he is a Republican and the rest of the 'defence team' are mainly Democrats! This showed AGAIN when someone lost his or her job, it is NOT just able competence and commitment! It is NOT able knowhow but know-who! YET. YET, it is my job to share with people that 'if we have to lose our job, let it be NOT because of competence and/or commitment'! Let those who have the power to hire and fire live with their 'know-who' selection criteria. At least in this case, the job losers can STILL have their dignity intact!

Goodnight!
