No Malaysian women were found to have joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) as comfort women, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut), Dr Ahmad Zahid said allegations that Malaysian women were involved in Jihad Al-Nikah activities there were merely rumours.

The Government, via the police, had identified 39 Malaysians involved in militant activities like Isis, of which one was a woman. "However, that woman has been identified as the wife of one of the militants," he said in the reply yesterday.

Jihad Al-Nikah is a controversial concept that refers to women allegedly offering themselves in sexual comfort roles to fighters for the establishment of Islamic rule. Dr Ahmad Zahid said he did not intend to pinpoint a specific law to charge the 39 Malaysians.

"If there is sufficient evidence to show their involvement in militant activities, the Government will take action based on laws like the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001, Societies Act 1966, and the Penal Code,'' he added."

It is good to see our neighbour being very vigilant in flashing out potential terrorists who hide behind the name of religion. That will put our own security forces on high alert to flash out our own potential 'religious' terrorists in Singapore.

Lessons for me are:

1. there ARE people who are willing to become terrorists for a religion to the extend of sacrificing one's body to 'honour' the 'religious fighters'! Even from a different country! The uniting force is 'the religious faith'! That is very powerful. And scary when the force is unleashed in a very wicked way!;

2. will Singaporeans be involved? It is safe to say that if religion is involved, there will be some who are emotionally aroused and lost the rational capacity to make good decisions. The task then become spotting these shaky and shady 'religious people' and lead them to the peaceful path of their religions! It means getting those close to them to notice the tell tales signs of 'potential religious terrorist converts'. It means educating the public to look out for such behaviours and facilitate early intervention! It will be a big task and will require many people's commitment to learn and spot and report! Notes: We have to be careful and NOT turn this effort into a 'National Witch Hunt'!!;

3. Interesting that the term 'comfort women' came up here as it was first used to described 'mandatory or forced' 'female prisoners of wars to 'service' the Japanese soldiers fighting in WWII. Not sure if such a practice was done by the Yankees and the Allied forces in WWII. Yes, sexual needs have to be satisfied by soldiers off the battle fronts. Just like the Vietnam war period where many Yankees patronized prostitutes all over SEA nations when they are out from the feared jungles and the cross-hair of the feared Vietcong enemies rifles in Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. The question has always been: If forced sex slavery is WRONG then if it is a commercial activity, is it more acceptable?

I hope we never have to contemplate this question as WAR to me is always: Insanity! There is NO winners in a WAR!!
