Daily Lessons from Life 10 October 2014 - A string of Incidents to ponder over ...

1. First, the happy and easy bit: Here is wishing all my ROC (Taiwan) friends a joyous and restful National Day holiday long weekend ahead!

2. Second, security in KL has reached alarming 'lawlessness' and 'blatantly violent' stage with the grenades attack at the shopping and touristic bustling entertainment district of Bukit Bintang early this morning! 2 grenades were supposedly thrown with 1 killing 1 and injuring 12 others while 1 was 'detonated under controlled condition by the police bombs squad'! This is UNIMGANIABLE! Most are aware of the high incident of robberies that resulted in physical harm through punches or knives attack but not too many fire arms and NEVER involving grenade! This is WAY passed Very bad!!

3. Third, a visiting mainland Chinese student at Hong Kong University assaulted a British professor, demanding that the lecturer and students speak more Mandarin in class.

He was supposedly a visiting student from the famed Tsinghua University, Beijing, PRC. The reasons for assaulting the foreign lecturer/Professor are: he could not stand the foreigners and being patriotic means demanding the medium of teaching be in Mandarin since Hkg SAR has been returned to PRC since 1997!!

It is shocking IF his claim that he is from Tsinghua University, Beijing, PRC, is true as it is one of the top universities in PRC and the general expectation of him would be a cultured, wise and open learned person. IF it is true, hopefully he is JUST one of the few disgruntled and 'I-need-help' students as nobody should be deemed bright and sane just because he or she has enrolled in a top university! BUT, if his resentment about the perceived 'superiority of foreign language and foreigners' is the TYPICAL Tsinghua University students' mentality, it will be the root cause for anti-foreigners and anti-all-things-not-Chinese movement in the future.

4 Fourth Arrested in Drug Bust after 4-Hour Stand Off - AsiaOne 10 October 2014

The raid by Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers at a Woodlands flat resulted in a 4 hour stand-off after the suspects barricaded themselves within the unit.

Interesting to note that it took a 4-hour stand off before the Central Narcotic Bureau (CNB) managed to get to the suspects who barricaded themselves in the HDB flat. A lot of cover up and whatever 'evasive' actions could have taken place during this 4-hour leaving zero evidence for the officers to charge them on. BUT, looks like they did not succeed and the CNB officers did arrest them and recovered some drugs.

Will be good to learn more why it took so long to get to the suspects as the efficiency and effectiveness of the law enforcement agencies is under scrutiny after the horrific Little India Riot in December 2013!
