Daily Lessons from Life 13-14 July 2014 - City Harvest trial: Church board backed Ho Yeow Sun's music career, says accused

World Cup Updates - It is all over now. World Cup 2014. Germany won for the 4th time while Argentina failed to clinch its 3rd. Good game though my favourite footballer, Messi, did not get a World Cup medal to add to his stellar resume. The game was open and both teams tried to win it instead of playing not to lose. The goal by Little Mario was exquisite with a touch and a volley. A goal worthy to winning the World Cup though it is a very cruel way to end it on 113 minutes of extra time. NOW, life goes back to 'normal' for the football fans. :-)

"City Harvest trial: Church board backed Ho Yeow Sun's music career, says accused - The Straits  Times 14 July 2014

SINGAPORE - The accused, former church board member John Lam Leng Hung, said the church had decided to reach out to young "unchurched" people through Ms Ho's music as it saw the entertainment industry "held sway" over them.

The board members also agreed that the church's backing of Ms Ho should be discreet so that the young people would not dismiss her music as "yet another church-sponsored project"."

So this long awaited trial has formally began. On 14/07/14 too! For the numerologists, the 14-14 date must have meant something. LOL!!

Lessons for me are:

1. will CPIB win this case after some notable failures in the last 2 years against some high profile cases? I hope it will as its reputation can ill-afford another knock!;

2. what if CPIB lost this case too? What does it say about the standard of the prosecution and also how can innocent citizens be protected from being sued and got dragged into this type of highly publicised affairs? What kind of compensation is fair for the 'wrongly accused' persons? This was raised in the past but no wrongly accused person(s) has/have ever filed counter-suit in this Little Red Dot yet. Or did but were dismissed by the courts?;

3. interestingly, Blogger Roy's allegation of the PM's handling of the CPF money was libellous supposedly due to the comparison of the way CHC handled the 'investment' money for Ms Ho's music career. If these accused are judged to be 'not guilty', then PM's case against Blogger Roy may be weakened? Another possible cross-referencing of precedents here by the court of laws?

Anyway, a lot of people are paying close attention to this case. A multi-million dollar 'scam', if established, that must be understood by most Singaporeans who will then look out to prevent any such recurrence ever again!
