Daily Lessons from Life 10-12 June 2014 - World Cup and Others

The last 2 (or 3) days had been sloppy for me on blogging. The time difference is not helping. Anyway, time to catch up.

1. World Cup 2014 kicked off with Brazil securing a nervy win against Croatia 3-1 in Sao Paulo. A great start to Brazil regardless of the manner of winning!

For a while, the old adage that: 'the ball is round and you never know' seems to have bite when Marcelo scored an own-goal after 11 minutes!

While the folks running the Football Association of Brazil are not really doing a good job with the preparation, the PEOPLE of Brazil deserve a GREAT WORLD CUP if only to provide relief from the chaos and corrupt ways of the powerful!

2. Blogger Roy Ngerng's Termination of Employment

While this is, unfortunately for many, an expected result for anyone who voiced differing opinions from the establishment, it is really unhelpful.

TTSH fired Mr Ngerny as he supposedly 'used' his working time to defend himself against the suit brought on by PM Lee. This is good enough ground to fire him. And rightly so according to the employment contract. The MOH supposedly issued a statement to support his termination of employment too. Again, perfectly legal and logical.

Alas, the challenge is many sympathisers will see it as 'bullying'. That those who have different opinions from the government will not be given an easy time. Pressure will be there for them to behave 'perfectly'. Or else ...

I hope Blogger Roy had prepared himself mentally that this could be the consequence when he spoke about CPF and made some mistakes.

Let's see how things develop. Blogger Roy had made mistakes. There is no denying. At the same time, this 'David vs. Goliath' thingy may have a life of its own that no one can predict. When emotion is stirred, logic has no chance. A mantra I had maintained all these while!

3. Prosecutors appealing against the 'fine' imposed by the court on the ex-NPark Officer

The public prosecutors are appealing the sentence of S$5k fine imposed on the accused who gave false information in the investigation of a potential corruption charge. It is CLEAR that the government is keen to make sure that the public servants are fully aware that when they misused or abused the trust given to them as public servants, they will be held fully accountable and face the proper consequences of any wrong doing.

I think it is the right thing to do. After all, most policies are executed by public servants. When they are corrupt, even the best thought of policies will lose the positive impacts that the policies could have created. So, NO MERCY for corrupt public servants. The penalties MUST be very severe.
