Daily Lessons from Life 03 May 2014 - Help in job hunt, social assistance through one-stop service

Lighting strikes twice for South Korea with the metro sub-way collision injuring 200+ people with no fatality. This, so soon after the tragic Incheon-Jeju Ferry accident. Sent a word of encouragement to my South Korean friend and he responded that perhaps the country's relentless pursuit of growth had neglected safety issue?

"Help in job hunt, social assistance through one-stop service - CNA 03 May 2014

SINGAPORE: Residents of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC will be able to get help in their job search or other forms of social assistance through a one-stop service, under a project by a job placement centre.
Project S.U.C.C.E.S.S will integrate its work processes with the social service office, which will be located opposite Sengkang Community Club.

The social service office will have a full-time staff to assist residents.

The collaboration will be the first of its kind in Singapore.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, made the announcement at a recruitment drive at Pasir Ris Elias Community Club on Saturday.
More than 1,000 positions from 10 employers from various industries are available at the recruitment event, which is being held as part of the 10th anniversary of Project S.U.C.C.E.S.S."

For many ordinary Singaporeans, 'bread and butter' issues still preoccupied many.

Lessons for me are:

1. besides provide a safe (laws and orders) environment, providing education to anyone who want it, affordable healthcare when the citizens need it and affordable public housing, the other key responsibilities of the government is to create jobs as best it could so that the citizens can have a job to make a living and do other things;

2. it is great to learn that companies around the neighbourhood are working with the community and community services agencies to recruit from within the neighbourhood. That will really achieve the 'live, work, play, rest, and anything else' within your regional centre vision!;

3. hopefully the local talents, blue- and/or white-collared, will be able to find relatively suitable jobs in this mass recruitment exercise.

Be, and be seen to be, on the ground. It is one of the most direct way to get a feel of what is really happening at the grass root level and HOW ordinary Singaporeans are experiencing in the job market!

Keep up the good work. Sustainability is the absolutely key!
